Reports on Rare, Threatened, and Endangered Vascular Plants: Discussion and Guidelines

The Federal Endangered Species Act of 1973, state programs, and the efforts of private environmental organizations have resulted in the compilation of numerous reports on rare vascular plants. While all of these have a common goal--the reporting of rare taxa, distribution and status--they differ widely in format. There is no wide agreement on what to report or how to categorize it. This report discusses information appropriate for rare and endangered plant species reports, and proposes guidelines for the preparation of such. The guidelines presented were developed for use in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina, and the examples used to illustrate these guidelines were taken from that region.
