Microbial Mutagenesis Testing of Substances; Compound Report: F76-022, Methyl-p-hydroxybenzoate

SRI International examined an FDA compound identified as F76-022. The compound was tested in the Ames Salmonella/microsome assay for induction of reverse mutation in Salmonella typhimurium strains TA1535, TA1537, TA1538, TA98, and TA100, and in Escherichia coli WP2 (uvrA). Each assay was performed in the presence and in the absence of a rat liver homogenate metabolic activation system. Compound F76-022 did not appear to be mutagenic. Toxicity was observed at 10,000 ug/plate with all strains.
