摘要

The study was designed to measure and describe the association between infant mortality and socioeconomic status in three metropolitan centers of Ohio at two points in time (1959-61 and 1969-71) and in two metropolitan areas in Arizona for 1969-71. The specific aims of the analysis were to examine the nature of the relationship of infant mortality (both neonatal and postneonatal components) to a number of different indexes of socioeconomic status, for both white and nonwhite segments of the population in different regions of the country, and to assess the role played by particular causes of death on the nature and magnitude of any observed socioeconomic differentials. The study employed an ecological design in which the basic unit of analysis was the census tract of mother's usual residence.
