Wastewater Discharges from Water Treatment Plants, a Study

Data on wastewater discharges from 15 water treatment plants in the Ohio River Basin were provided to The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) for use in the ongoing revision of ORSANCO effluent standards, slated for completion in 1982. The report compiles ORSANCO and federal regulations and policies on this issue, as well as those of the eight states forming the ORSANCO compact. Disposal alternatives for these discharges are presented as well as representative costs. Potential environmental impacts of these discharges to land and water are given along with a characterization of existing conditions along the Ohio River mainstem.
