摘要

An experimental investigation was undertaken to establish the response of high-strength concrete confined in steel spirals when subjected to short-term monotonic concentric loading. The main variables studied were the compressive strength and density of the concrete, amount of confinement, and specimen size. The program included a total of 94 short columns, most of which were cast without a concrete cover over the spiral steel. A reduced number of specimens was designed to model geometrically a full-sized spirally-reinforced column to study the nature of the failure of their protective cover.
