摘要

Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) is a relatively new public transportation system concept that involves the use of automatically controlled, driverless vehicles that operate on exclusive rights-of-way. The Transette AGT system is an innovative, relatively low-cost prototype system that has been underway since 1972. The two study sites near downtown Atlanta were selected for cost and level of service analyses. This study was undertaken to determine the near-term application potential of the Transette system in urban areas and to recommend technological improvement areas for Transette. Cost and level of service comparisons between Transette, bus, and walking were conducted. The Transette system uses guideway-mounted belts for the propulsion and control of passive vehicles. Its guideway-based propulsion system permits the design of light and uncomplicated vehicles and offers the potential for higher reliability than most current AGT system designs, together with lower capital and operating and maintenance costs.
