Sugar and Sweetner: Outlook and Situation

Record world sugar surplus is depressing prices. World centrifugal sugar production in 1981/82 has again been revised upward, to 97.9 million tons (raw value), 1.6 million above the previous estimate. Slowgrowing consumption is forecast at 91 million tons. The resulting record surplus of nearly 7 million tons could push global stocks to 28.1 million-31 percent of estimated consumption and far above the 25 percent generally regarded as a good balance.
