Community and Economic Development for Counties (Alachua County, Florida; Travis County, Texas; and Nine Parrishes in Northwest Louisiana)

For three years, the National Organization of Black County Officials has accepted the responsibility of providing technical assistance for economic development to Black County officials. The report covers its assistance to county commissioners in Alachua County, Florida and Travis County, Texas and to police jurors in nine mostly rural parishes in Northwest Louisiana. The project was designed to develop leadership skills and capacities among black officials to undertake and implement development projects and to promote effective citizen participation in community and economic development. On site assistance has been an important factor helping to alleviate the isolation of officials in Northwest Louisiana. In conducting the project, NOBCO developed a network of informed county officials who share information with each other about economic development programs and strategies that work in various types of settings.
