The close of fiscal year 1988 marks the tenth anniversary of the Inspector General Act of 1978. The 8,000 auditors, investigators, inspectors, computer specialists, analysts, attorneys and other personnel in Federal Office of Inspector General (IGs) are the public's agents for preventing and detecting fraud and waste. The report describes the role and accomplishments of IG departments in Federal agencies.
