By following the 8 steps in the manual, a trainer can establish a basic skills training program in the workplace. Public sector providers of training who work to enhance the skills of disadvantaged clients can use the manual to understand how to work with employers to establish workplace basics programs, as well as to format their course work in a systematic fashion that will meet the needs of local employers. The most effective approach to providing training in workplace basics is the applied approach because it motivates learners by linking learning to improve job performance which, in turn, may lead to improvement in learners careers and earning; encourages learner retention by requiring immediate and repeated use of newly gained knowledge; and improves job performance by creating learning experiences based on actual job needs.
