Derivatization for Column Liquid Chromatography with Peroxyoxalate Chemiluminescence Detection

In the thesis new derivatization reactions for PO-CL detection in HPLC will be investigated, the main aim being the trace-level analysis of biomedical and environmental samples. In Chapter 2, an extensive general review on CL detection in HPLC is given. In Chapter 3, the separation and PO-CL detection of compounds containing a primary or tertiary amine functional group is described. The two-phase derivatization of phenolic compounds, described in Chapter 4, is evaluated for two labels, dansyl chloride and laryl chloride, a rhodamine label possessing a favorable emission wavelength of 580 nm. In Chapter 5 the synthesis of a modified dansyl chloride label for carboxylic acids is reported. In Chapter 6, the potential and limitations of PO-CL detection in HPLC are discussed.
