New Opportunities for U.S. Universities in Development Assistance. Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Environment

The report focuses on university/AID interactions in activities directly related to agriculture, natural resources, and the environment. Of these three areas, agriculture has received the lion's share of attention and funding over the years. However, agriculture only recently has been recognized as one aspect of natural resource use and management. Further, those natural resources that support and underpin agriculture are components of a larger system referred to generally as the 'environment'. Recognition of these concepts is evidenced by expanding legislative language, new AID initiatives, and by the growth in development assistance funding for natural resource and environment programs and projects.
