(The report describes the design and the mode of operation of an HDB3-eneoder and decoder. The error propagation of HDB-encoded and scrambled signals caused by the decoding process in investigated. Here, the Influence of randomly distributed errors and bunched errors is taken into consideration. Tt becomes apparent that because of the decoding process randomly distributed errors on the digital path cause essentially more errors at the receiving send than bunched errors. The increase of error rate in the case Jof randomly distributed errors is smaller for HDB-codes than for [scrambled codes and amounts to about 20/4. Finally the power SDectra of the described ouasiternary line spinals is given.
