INVESTIGATION ON THE APPLICATION OF LASERS FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF DEFORMATIONS

The cost to apply laser technology for the measurement of static deformations of large objects (antennas, solar panels) is esti¬mated for the three methods - holography, speckle and dynamic measurements. A fourth method - diffusion - is proposed for evaluation which could represent an easier way to measure the deformation compared with the described methods.nThe most promissing of the investigated methods seems at the moment to be the dynamic measurement. This method is the only one which allows a real time evaluation of the measurement;no photographic processes and no following expensive fringe evalu¬ation is necessary. As the cost of developing an industrial set up can at this stage only be given with low precision (± 50 %) it is proposed to perform a second step of the investigation, which will give a more precise estimation.
