A SIMPLE MODEL OF A CFRP LAMINATED MATERIAL IN 'THE FORM OF A SANDWICH BEAM

A simple model of a laminated CFRP material, in the form of a damped sandwich "beam, is proposed, and equations of motion and boundary conditions are derived by a variational method. Damped normal modes are used in a parameter study of a symmetrical, cantilevered sandwich beam, which shows that the effect of interlaminar shear on the dynamic behaviour of CFRP materials is likely to be small. Limitations of the model prevent quantitative deductions being made at this stage.
