STUDY OF UNCONVENTIONAL AIRCRAFT ENGINES DESIGNED FOR LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION

摘要

Declining U. S. oil reserves and escalating energy costs underline the need for reducing fuel consumption in aircraft engines. This report identifies the most promising unconventional aircraft engines based on their potential for fuel savings and improved economics. The study includes evaluation of the engines installed in both a long-range and medium-range aircraft. Projected technology advances are identified and evaluated for their state-of-readiness for application to a commercial transport. Programs are recommended for developing the necessary technology.
