Statistical Analysis of Partial Discharge Inception in High Voltage

Research into the application of statistical techniques to the measurement and analysis of the occurrence of partial discharges (PDs) in insulations under test is discussed. In particular, the uncertain region of PD inception was examined to establish the effect of test variables such as voltage, time, insulation thickness and temperature. The test results show that statistical techniques and inception definition provide a versatile and accurate means of PD measurement and analysis.
