摘要

A breadboard model of an image compression/decompression system for use on board scientific satellites is presented. The system consists of a microprogrammable, high speed, 16 bit, image data (de)compressor with a parallel processor architecture. Only complementary metal oxide semiconductors (CMOS) are incorporated into the computer system design. The processor was designed to achieve a high degree of programmability while operating at low power consumption levels. Three well performing algorithms are available for the system, one for entropy coding and two for data compression with a fixed reconstruction error. Application of the data compression system hardware to space environment conditions is considered.
