Rubber Tube Test Section of the DFVLR (Deutsche Forchungs- und Versuchsantalt fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V.) in Goettingen, West Germany

To realize three-dimensional adaptative wind tunnel walls a test section is constructed from a thick walled rubber tube. Test section length = 240 cm, and circular cross section = 80 cm. It is installed in a high speed wind tunnel. The cylindrical walls of the test section can be adapted to interference free boundary conditions by a set of 64 jacks driven by stepping motors. The measurement and evaluation of wall pressures, the computation of the interference free wall contour, and the wall adaptation by the 64 jacks are computer-controlled and performed automatically. Model tests demonstrate the achievement of interference free flow.
