The effects of the CH4 and C2H6 concentrations on the induction time of hydrocarbon-oxygen mixtures was investigated in order to improve the understanding of complex combustion processes. Induction measurements using the OH-absorption method were performed for CH4 concentrations between 0.1 percent and 10 percent and a constant O2-concentration of 20 percent. Lyman-alpha induction measurements were performed on highly diluted CH4/O2 mixtures. The measured induction times agree well with the calculated values. The reaction mechanism was simulated using the sensitivity analysis, allowing the determination of the reactions that substantially influence the global reaction.
