Multimode-gradient and monomode fibers were designed, produced, and characterized for wavelength-multiplex applications. The dispersion characteristics of multimode fibers designed with special exponential index-of-refraction profiles were determined. The fibers were produced using the method of Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition (MCVP), leading to composed exponential profiles. The dependence of the index-of-refraction increase on the dopant flux was determined. Damping, index-of-refraction profile, bandwidth, and pulse broadening of the multimode fibers were measured. The dispersion characteristics of monomode fibers with single and multiple jackets were determined. The fibers were produced using the MCVP method. The damping and the index-of-refraction profile of the monomode fibers were determined.
