Theoretical methods applied to the post-buckling behavior of curved aluminum alloy panels were compared with experiments. Panels with built-in ends and simply supported longitudinal edges were tested in compression into the postbuckling region. The effect of variations in chord and radius were investigated with measurements of local strain, buckle mode, overall compression, and load input being recorded. It is found that highly curved panels buckle in an unstable manner while those with less curvature display a more stable behavior with a transition occurring between the two. While qualitatively the theoretical and experimental results bore resemblance, quantitatively large discrepancies in buckling stress are found to exist between them.
