A wake superposition model which provides an effective and simple means of calculating the boundary layer integral parameters, including the local skin friction coefficient, momentum thickness, and form factor was developed. The mean velocity profiles can also be computed and are found to be in remarkably good agreement with experiment. Results show that greater reductions in local skin friction are possible by increasing R Theta, c/delta and drag coefficient of the device(s). Device height is critical, the optimum being 0.75 delta. Mean velocity profiles suggest a close similarity between the manipulator wake and the 2-D wake downstream of a bluff body placed in a uniform stream.
