Two-Dimensional Toda-Lattice and Its Recursion Operators

It is shown that the two-dimensional Toda-lattice is endowed with two different recursion operators. These operators are associated with two different nonabelian one-dimensional spectral problems, both of which yield, in suitable limits, the linear problem for the two-dimensional Toda-lattice.
