摘要

A method of solution is presented for compressible fluid flow past an elliptic cylinder by means of the variational method. The solution is obtained as a function of thickness ratio and free-stream Mach number. Numerical examples are carried out for several thickness patios and Mach numbers and the results are compared with those obtained by other methods. It is seen that the variational-method yields good results for flow past a thick body at a low Mach number as well as for flow past-a thin body at a high Mach number.
