An attempt has been made to discover the mechanism for the neutron induced disco position of graphite by means of experiments in which irradiated specimens were heated for long periods at successively higher temperatures. The properties studied were the electrical resistivity and elastic modulus. The measurements were designed to shown(a) the effect of the amount of irradiation,n(b) the differences between the various types of pile graphite,n(c) the dependence upon the extrusion-produced crystallite orientation,n(d) the dependence upon degree of graphitization and crystallite size.
