AN INVESTIGATION INTO SOME ASPECTS OP THE ELECTRO-SPARK EROSION PROCESS WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE CUTTING OF URANIUM

The fundamental principles of the electro-spark erosion process are outlined, and the various theories advanced to explain the phenomenon are briefly discussed. The essential features of a typical electro-spark erosion machine are fully described. The results of investigations into the effect of the numerous operating parameters on machining characteristics are given, particular attention being paid to the use of this method as a first step towards producing tensile test specimens from uranium. Details of the effects of the process on the surface structure of uranium are also given. Contributions to the theory of the electro-spark erosion phenomenon are made and suggestions for future research listed.
