Toward a National Policy on Aging. Volume II: Conference Findings and Recommendations from the Sections and Special Concern Sections.

This document, the second volume of the final report on the 1971 White House Conference on Aging, is devoted to reports of the work of the 14 subject area sections and 17 special concerns sessions at the conference. Each of the subject section reports is preceded by a brief profile of the conference group that developed the recommendations set forth. The reports of the special concerns sessions tend to be less policy-focused than the subject section recommendations and are concerned primarily with programs and services for the elderly. Subject section recommendations cover the following topics, as they concern older people: education; employment and retirement; physical and mental health; housing; income; nutrition; retirement roles and activities; spiritual well-being; transportation; facilities, programs, and services; government and nongovernment organization; planning; research and demonstration; and training. The special concerns session reports deal with health care strategies (long-term care, mental health care, and home services for aging persons); disability and rehabilitation (aging and blindness, physical and vocational rehabilitation, aging and deafness); rural and the poor elderly; minority elderly (Asian, Spanish-speaking, Blacks, American Indian); protective and social support (the older family, the religious community and the aging, the elderly consumer, legal aid and the urban aged); and roles for old and young.
