Attention is drawn to the fact that the application of an oscillating axial current of reasonable amplitude and frequency could lead to a stable, dynamic, toroidal equilibrium of the plasma column in the curved end sections of the racetrack theta-pinch configuration. The parameters of an experiment aimed at testing the feasibility of this technique are presented. Finally, the r.f. power requirements of racetrack and fully toroidal theta-pinch configurations are compared. (Atomindex citation 10:481200)
