Although the numerical results presented are typical of a band-mounted, thick-rim design under current development at Sandia, many of the basic analyses conducted can be adapted readily to other specific flywheel designs by substituting the appropriate dimensional and material parameters for those used here.nThe specific modes covered include whirling, torsional, and axial nodes involving band, shaft and support flexibilities and in-plane bending, combined out-of-plane bending/twisting, and extensional modes of the fly-wheel rim. Where appropriate, gyroscopic and transverse shear effects are included.
