Review of the Commissioning and Initial Operation of the NSF (Nuclear Structure Facility) Tandem Accelerator.

An account is given of the initial voltage tests before and after the installation of the intershield. Accelerator tube testing, installation and conditioning is described and tube performance is discussed. The main features of the injector system and of the beam optical system within the accelerator are described. A brief summary is given of machine performance to date including voltages attained and ion species accelerated. Proposed developments and improvements are discussed. 9 refs., 11 figs.
