Detection of Water Induction in Steam Turbines. Phase II. Field Evaluation. Final Report

The purpose of this study was to determine the suitability of various instrumentation systems for detecting the presence of water in the steam pipes of an operating utility. Temperature, pressure, and acoustic sensing systems were installed at the Boston-Edison Company's New Boston Station, and their outputs were monitored on a dedicated digital data acquisition system. The temperature and acoustic systems operated satisfactorily whereas the dynamic pressure system was too fragile for routine utility operation at elevated pressures and temperatures. No known water incidents were recorded during the course of this phase of the project. (ERA citation 08:040619)
