Evaluation Procedure for Building Energy Performance Prediction Tools: Volume 2, Background Research Documentation: Appendix B, Listing and Review of Previous Evaluation and Categorization Studies

Over the past several years, the US Department of Energy (DOE) has produced a number of reports and studies concerned with evaluating and categorizing building energy design tools. Private design tools researchers and tool developers have also contributed to the list of publications which deal with this same topic. The purpose of this report is to present an annotated bibliography of these reports and studies and to assess what can be learned from them. Reports and studies were included in this document if they addressed building energy design tools and covered any one of the following three areas: energy flow over time; instantaneous temperature peak loads; and building and energy system sizing. Reports and evaluations of extremely specialized areas such as earth contact heat flux are not included. Also, only reports which relate to work performed in the United States are included. This report is divided into three parts in addition to this introduction. The first of these is a categorized list of all the reports and studies identified. The second is an annotated bibliography of the documents. Finally, because some of the reports are no longer published, a list of organizations and individuals that may be able to help you obtain a copy is given.
