Revised Taxonomy: Standard Service Definitions for Programs on Aging. A User's Handbook

The document introduces the revised taxonomy, which is a completely new information systems tool for managers of programs on aging; explains how to use the taxonomy in operational settings; and explains the history and development of the taxonomy. Service activities and unit measures such as advocacy/representation, assessment/screening, care planning, chore service, counseling, personal care, letter writing, legal assistance, and housekeeping are defined and need/purpose areas are described. These include abuse/protection/neglect, care management, consumer assistance, crime/safety, emergency aid, and lifetime learning/socialization. An overview of the policy and methodological issues to be addressed in information systems planning is provided, as are illustrations of the taxonomy vis a vis forms and procedures. Also, sample reports generated by the use of the taxonomy in a computerized system are included.
