Current bio-defense point detection systems depend on acquiring a sample of the ambient aerosol. The aerosol inlet to the collection system is therefore a primary component & crucial to the performance of the entire point detection system. Flow field around and to an inlet intake is important issue when considering the performance of a point detection system. Inlet placement with respect to other objects in the flow field can have an impact on the performance of the system. For example: * The inlet could be sampling from recirculation zones where interferents accumulate * The inlet may be in a flow field where the ambient aerosol cannot be directly aspirated. * There could be local flow accelerations or vectoring to inlet at non-design orientations.
