Focused Logistics, Joint Vision 2010: A Joint Logistics Roadmap

In the foreseeable future, we will continue to be faced with the daunting task of committing U.S. forces on short notice to potentially hostile environments of unknown duration. Unlike Operation Desert Shield/Storm, we will not have the lead-time necessary to develop the 'traditional' logistics infrastructure. Our nation's political leaders will come under continuing pressure to decrease defense expenditures through downsizing yet maintain high states of readiness. Force structure, particularly logistics force structure, will come under close scrutiny as we attempt to generate cost savings/avoidances. Future military operations are likely to find a great many logistics functions privatized or outsourced. The contribution of the Reserve Component will be an important part of our national military strategy. Joint Vision 2010 (JV2010) prescribes an operational template for how we can deal with this dynamic environment.
