The problems of packaging and space qualifying such a unit are quite formidable, but not insoluble as shown by space qualified units such as RCA's AMIE and Ampex's X-20 recorder and the Ampex ALH-4. Stringent time base requirements appreciably increase the difficulty of the space qualification problem.nFor satellite borne recorders, it is highly desirable to place the large amount of electronics represented by the variable delay lines on the ground and perform the fine time base correction on the ground. The problems associated with doing this are not yet clearly defined; some resolution of this is expected in the near future and results will be made available.
