The Sperry automatic throttle control system described above includes per¬formance, operation, and safety features which make it well suited for the all weather landing application. It includes the capability of controlling throttles to either a manually selected airspeed reference or to an airspeed which is auto¬matically determined by an angle of attack reference. As such, it offers oper¬ational flexibility for use during cruise, holding, and terminal area maneuvering as well as for the final approach and landing. The complementary filter method of using both airspeed and a forward acceleration to derive forward velocity minimizes throttle lever activity and provides the tight airspeed control which is required in the presence of windshear conditions often encountered during the final phases of landing. The use of an integrating throttle servo system which includes lagged tachometer feedback eliminates the need for an airspeed inte¬grator and throttle position sensor and, thus, improves system reliability.
