摘要

The method of equivalent linearization is used to investigate the effects of the membrane force on the stresses in a simply supported Bernoulli-Euler beam subject to random excitation. It is shown that, while the mean-square membrane stress is negligible compared to the mean-square bending stress, the former nevertheless has the effect of reducing the latter. Furthermore, this reduction is less significant for higher driving frequencies, thereby reducing any 'nonlinear safety factor' that might be considered. (Author)
