Young adult LAF1, mice received a single sublethal exposure to fission spectrum neutrons, and were treated as follows:nGroup I - 195 to 199 red followed by a single subcutaneous injection of CCL4 one month later; Group II - CCL4, injected one day prior to neutron irradiation (280 - 329 rad); Group III - CCL4 only; no irradiation; Group IV - unilateral nephrectomy carried out one day before neutron irradiation (320 - 328 rad); Group V - neutron irradiation only (200 -320 red). In the Group I mice sacrificed 12 - 16 months post irradiation, 75# exhibited hepatomas, while 92% of the mice in Group II showed hepatomas. By contrast, liver tumors appeared in 14% of mice receiving neutron irradiation only (Group V), and in only 2.4% of mice exposed to a single dose (500 rad of 200 kvp X ray).
