THE STUDY OF SPONTANEOUS POTENTIALS FROM EXPLANTS OF BRAIN TISSUE IN VITRO

The tissues to which an extension of our technique was attempted were:n1) Reticulo-endothelial system: An attempt was made to measure the phagocytic properties of splenic tissue in vitro by monitoring the reduction in absorption of a narrow wavelength of transmitted light as resulting from the removal of hemosiderin by phagocytes.n2) An attempt was made to measure the ability of liver tissue in vitro to re¬move glucose from solution using polarimetry, the measurement of change in the intensity of light was mode with a multiplier tube.n3) An effort to monitor the electrical activity of the uterus in vitro gave equivocal results.n4) The application of the TD technique to the ability of the renal tubules in vitro to absorb dye stuffs did not proceed beyond the planning stage. A tech¬nique was successfully developed to monitor the electrical activity arising from the carotid body.
