A Survey of Correlation Length Measurements of the Vortex Shedding Process Behind a Circular Cylinder

The results of ten investigations were studied to determine what quantities should be measured and where to measure them to obtain realistic correlation lengths. Some experimenters carried out visual observations to estimate the size of the correlated flow. Others measured the fluctuations in velocity, surface pressures, and sectional loading to obtain correlation coefficients which when integrated give correlation lengths. The purpose of the paper was to determine if consistent values for correlation length can be measured using these various techniques. (Author)
