摘要

The background and problems involved in the conversion of a class of large trawlers to purse-seiners have been considered. Full scale turning trials showed the need for greatly improved turning ability. Several widely different rudder arrangements were proposed and tested using the HyA-Planar-Motion Mecha¬nism to obtain the hydrodynamic characteristics of the individual rudder-hull combinations. The results of the model tests have been expressed by non-dimensional coefficients of the equations of motion, which have subse¬quently been solved with the aid of a digital computer to give predictions of full-scale turning circles.
