Assessment of Relative Toxicity of Candidate Louse Toxicant ENT-27165, O,O,O',O'-Tetramethyl O,O'-Thiodi-P-Phenylene Phosphorothioate (Abate (Trademark)). Evaluation of Animal and Human Exposure Data and Recommendations Concerning a Field Test Program

An assessment of relative toxicity of ENT-27165, (O,O,O',O'-tetramethyl O,O'-thiodi-p-phenylene phosphorothioate), Abate was performed by means of a literature search and laboratory animal studies. No evidence was found which would indicate any unanticipated toxicity associated with the use of ENT-27165 as a 2 percent dust when used in a field test under controlled conditions. It is recommended that ENT-27165 (Abate) formulated as a 2 percent dust in pyrax be considered for field testing. While this compound is in a research and development stage, personnel potentially exposed to either the undiluted technical grade chemical or the pyrax formulations should be under medical surveillance until such time that more definitive human exposure data are available.
