The Machine Reduction of Ionograms,Testing of and Improvements to the Process.

摘要

The sources of error in a machine recuction program for ionogram data were evaluated. The major source of error was found to be the tracing of the returns. The magnitudes of the errors were found to be small in comparison with those expected in the input data. A pattern recognition technique was developed to aid in the computer identification of traces on the ionogram tracings. Test results indicated that significant increases in useable data could be gained by the use of this technique. Several programs for the calculation of electron density were tested. General accuracy,underlying ionization corrections,peak extrapolatin and the times required for computation were tested. (Modified author abstract)
