Two methods of analyzing laminated-composite,linear-elastic plate and shell structures under transient mechanical and/or thermal loadings have been developed based on the hybrid-stress finite-element model. The computer codes corresponding to these two methods were also developed and tested. In the first method,involving the direct time integration of the governing equations, a central-difference scheme is used. The second method involves the modal superposition of the solution,and a sub-space iteration scheme is used to determine the normal modes. Both programs are capable of treating thin or thick plates and shell structures. Shells with branches and cutouts can be treated. The basic element used is a quadrilaterial multi-layer flat plate hybrid-stress element with eight different versions for different modeling situations. The material for each layer can be orthotropic with any arbitrary orientation. The program input and output are accomplished through several user-interactive subroutines to achieve maximum flexibility. (Modified author abstract)
