摘要

This research was directed toward improvement in the transverse properties of light alloys reinforced with Borsic fibers. Encapsulation of approximately 10% of silicon carbide whiskers,aligned normal to the Borsic fibers in 6061alloys,resulted in a 30% increase in transverse tensile strength and 40% increase in Young's Modulus. A significant retention of transverse tensile strength of the composite is maintained up to the highest temperature tested, 600F.
