An Ergometer for Concentric and Eccentric Muscular Contraction

An ergometer for human subjects is described which can be used for leg cycling exercise at low to very high intensities involving concentric or eccentric muscle contractions. Dependent upon the mode of exercise (concentric or eccentric) and rpm chosen, the upper limit of power production approximates 1,500 W. The ergometer permits the study of full ranges of exercise intensities for both types of exercise which, for the concentric condition, includes a high component of anaerobic energy release. (Author)
