Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons on the Inner Surfaces of Copper Tubing

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry to be present on the inner surfaces of copper tubing as the tubing was supplied by the manufacturers. The PAHs probably exist as by-products of the manufacturing process. Concentrations of PAHs as high as 0.17 mg/m of tubing were found. A summary of the various PAHs found in three samples of copper tubing is included with this report.
