摘要

The study reviews current academic behavior theory, training and motivation practice of successful industrial companies and current U.S. Army training and motivation doctrine and policies. Study methodology was essentially a review of: (1) current written works on learning/motivation behavior theory, (2) the latest books on management for excellence in industry, and (3) army training regulations and leadership programs for instruction. These were supplemented by information, written and personal/telephone interviews, provided by six successful American companies the Sergeants Major Academy, several officers currently commanding artillery battalions and the author's personal experience. Army successful company training and motivation practices are compared with each other and with cognitive behavior theory. Successful company practice, it is concluded, is closely aligned with cognitive theory while that of the Army is not. The study concludes with recommended changes in Army training and motivation policy which would bring the Army in closer alignment with cognitive theory and increase its potential for sharing the benefits of excellence experienced by America's best companies.
